Selfhostr is an independent site publishing comparisons, buying guides, reviews and tutorials: self-hosting, homelab, local LLMs, VPS, IT security and hardware.
Why this site exists
Before investing in a VPS, a NAS drive, a homelab mini-PC, or moving your stack to a local LLM, you have to compare a lot of product pages and documentation.
Selfhostr publishes comparisons and guides to help you find your way. Most of our articles are not based on trials we ran ourselves: cross-check any figure (throughput, latency, RAM, power draw) against the manufacturer's official spec sheet before buying.
What our articles are
- No systematic testing — most of our articles are not based on any use of the products on our side, including some whose text mentions tests or measurements.
- Figures to cross-check — most of the values quoted (performance, power, install time) are not recorded by us: compare them with the manufacturer's official spec sheet.
- Indicative prices — a price quoted in an article may be wrong or outdated: current price and availability are on the merchant's page.
- No paid rankings — no brand pays to appear in an article or to be ranked higher.
Who is behind Selfhostr
Selfhostr is an independent editorial project run from France by homelab and self-hosting enthusiasts. Most of our articles are not based on trials of the products they feature. No brand decides what we publish.
Our business model
Selfhostr is funded by affiliate commissions (and, later, display advertising). In short: if you buy through one of our links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That funds the running of the site.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What we never do:
- Accept money or hardware in exchange for a favourable ranking.
- Publish a sponsored article presented as editorial content.
- Tweak a ranking to favour a higher-commission partner.
